Taylor Swift breaking records, as always

Last month, on October 21, Taylor Swift released a new album – “Midnights”. Since then, it has been breaking a number of records. Not even after 24 hours after the premiere, Spotify revealed that it was the most-streamed album in a single day. Taylor became the first artist to claim all top 10 spots on the Billboard Hot 100. According to Billbord, the album has had the most vinyl sales in a week since Luminate started counting such sales in 1991, the record previously held by Harry Styles’s “Harry’s House”. But is it really worth the hype?

Was Lana Del Rey just a marketing hack?

One of the songs, “Snow on the beach”, featuring Lana Del Rey has left many fans feeling like Swift has used Lana to promote the album. A lot of people were convinced the song was going to be great, maybe the best on the album, yet they did not get what they hoped for. The song is over 4 minutes long, but Lana doesn’t sing a single verse apart from backing vocals. Fans were disappointed, as they were counting for great lyrics, which did not satisfy them. The internauts have come up with hundreds of memes about “Snow on the beach” for example about Lana wanting to sing about drugs or other topics she often brings up in her songs and Taylor not agreeing to that.

Speaking up about her mental health

In comparison, “Anti-hero” got a lot of good opinions and is probably a fan-favourite from the album. The song is about problems Swift has faced as a famous person, especially a woman. She sings about her anorexia and depression, which lead her to not being able to look at herself in the mirror. The lyrics and the music video for “Anti-hero” indicate that she felt like too much, never skinny enough, never pretty enough and never perfect enough. Many fans related to the lyrics and said, that the artist displayed the feelings experienced by people with eating disorders.

Swifties broke Ticketmaster on The Eras Tour’s pre-sale

On November 1st Taylor has announced she is going to go on a tour called The Eras Tour. She described it as "a journey through the musical eras of (her) career", because the concerts are going to contain a few songs from every one of her albums. Pre-sale of tickets for the USA’s part of the tour was on November 15th on Ticketmaster. Unfortunately, the website couldn’t handle the amount of people, who wanted to buy tickets and many of them had trouble getting them due to an overload of Ticketmaster. Some had to wait 8 hours only to find out they couldn’t get tickets anyway. Both Swift and Ticketmaster apologised for the inconvenience and promised they’ll work on improving it in order to avoid such situations. However, 2 million people have purchased the tickets and will be able to attend the tour in the US.
