Reflections on autumn
Topic of the month
At the end of the month, we are happy to present our reflections on the experience of autumn—when the days are much shorter and gloomier. In the Music section, you can read about Rosalía's intriguing "Berghain" and The Doors' last album. The Art Corner features reflections on Chełmoński's works, while the literary section provides a review of "Fahrenheit 451" and explores its connections to autumnal feelings. Ecology column explains whether using paper straws actually helps the environment, and for the first time in our newspaper, you can read about astronomy! Check it out in the column "Whispers of the Universe."
Enjoy!
We’d love to hear what you think! Share your thoughts in the comments section under each post.

Whispering: a Hidden Truth, or an Open Secret?
“ If you want to capture someone’s attention, whisper”. -TV commercial for Nuance by Coty, 1977 In our everyday life, we use several different types of speech. We, of course, adjust our vocabulary and level of formality when interacting with different people, but there is also much to be said about a more basic, almost primal quality of our speech. By this, I mean the very sounds that make up our language. The way we conduct soft-spoken conversations with close ones, scream o

Cloudy Moods
Why fall is so depressing There is something about November that makes everything feel slower and more depressing. Why is that? The sky hasn’t been truly blue for weeks. Days grow shorter, nights colder, and our schedules busier, but… did it all disappear just because the sky became grayer? If all of this has you feeling a little more anxious, drained, hollow or unsettled, remember that you’re mimi. “Avery Kylie Grambs・+ the Inheritance Games.” Pinterest, 25 Oct. 2025, pin.it

The recipe for a cosy autumnal day
Have you ever been struggling with boredom, common cold or gloom during November? If your answer is yes, don’t worry. We’ve all passed through it. Infinite fog, rainy days and low pressure are typical for this time of the year. However, it doesn’t mean that you have to be stuck in a rut. Autumnal months don’t have to be that bad. In this article, you’ll find some tips on how to lighten up your “blue November day”. First of all, you need to demolish some stereotypes about fall

To reflect is to feel- how did Chełmoński manage to capture autumn so well?
“We garner this poor hour of ease, Until love turn from us and die Beneath the drear November trees.” Ernest Dowson Autumn, especially its latter months like November, are the time for us to tie loose threads and prepare for upcoming stoicity. With winter approaching we slow down, reflect and feel more- I believe it to be so, as when we transition from a busy lifestyle of past months to peacefulness of winter, in this small time interval, we have the most room to ponder and r

The temperature at which paper burns 451°F
By four o’clock the day is already slipping away when I leave school and the sky is red along the horizon, smoke held in the cold air like a breath no one lets go. I think of fire, of firemen who burn houses, books, ideas. No one shouts. No one protests. Somewhere there is only a whisper, thin as a page, carrying a book out of the blaze. I read “Fahrenheit 451” in November. It’s a small excuse for a theme, maybe, but the world outside matched the pages inside. The colours of

Consumed by Desire The Great Gatsby and the Allure of Wealth.
The Roaring Consumption The 1920s were a decade of glitter and excess, an age of jazz, dancing, and newfound freedom. After the First World War, America was booming. Factories produced more than ever, cities grew, and people believed there were no limits to success. It was a time when wealth became a symbol of happiness, and consumerism turned into a new religion. The more you owned, the more you were. This was the age of the “American Dream,” when everyone wanted to be someo

Hit the Road to the Literary World. When Fiction Becomes a Journey You Can’t Escape
“Hit the road” they said. Explore. See the world. But what if the world I’m interested in isn’t the one with flights or mountains or seaside towns, but a place where the streets are made of paragraphs and the skies are filled with metaphors? What if my journey didn’t begin with a suitcase, but with a library card? That’s how I ended up in Maycomb, Alabama. A town where summer is endless, justice is unpredictable, and children ask better questions than adults do. Harper Lee’s

Were the paper straws actually worth it?
Every person who has ever been to a fast food place knows the torture that is drinking from a paper straw. The horrible feeling of anticipation as you wait for your straw to inevitably fall apart and the disgusting aftermath of trying to drink from something that is basically a wet noodle. But after years of surviving this torment has it finally achieved something? The great news Wikipedia Contributors. “Green Sea Turtle.” Wikipedia, Wikimedia Foundation, 6 Nov. 2025. This Oc

''Month of fashion'' time of over consumptionism or moment for art and history
The turn of September and October is known in the fashion world as the "month of fashion." However, in an era when enormous amounts of clothing are being produced, we should consider whether it is truly necessary. It's just a cultural hype. Neuropsychology Behind The Theme

Beneath the falling leaves: Why autumn makes us feel deeply.
It has been claimed that November moves quietly between the warmth of fading colours and the approaching chill of winter. Whispers drift through the air, and beneath the falling leaves, something inside us changes. As the days shorten, the world slows in a way that makes us overthink certain aspects. There is no doubt that this season causes us to feel deeply, perhaps in ways we are unable to truly explain. We may ask ourselves: ‘Why does this season affect us that much? How

Why do we have the need to fill the void? - A neuropsychological perspective of consumerism in eating disorders.
It is inevitable that we live in a world of extremes as well as abundance. When it comes to what we are exposed to through the Internet, a hidden message is passed on to us that we need more. More clothes, food, everything. This illustrates that there is a void that no amount of goods can fill, even though we have much more than we did in the previous decades. Psychology as well as neuroscience reveals that this is not just a simple mishap and it is the way it is for a specif

The urge to disappear: How travel becomes an escape from daily roles
When familiar places become a prison rather than a pleasure Home is supposed to be a place of genuine comfort, but why has it been assumed it is more like a mirror of everything that we are expected to be?
