Music industry had always been composed of a list of complicated professions. There were singers, instrumentalists, beat makers, sound engineers, studio masters, music producers, recording engineers, artist managers, music publicists, composers, music arrangers, and many other people who take care of the production and publishing the songs which we all will be listening to. What if I tell you, that all of these people can lose their jobs in the time of few seconds? All of this because of artificial intelligence.
For those who are lost in this topic, of what actually is AI, here’s an explanation. AI- artificial intelligence, is a machine demonstrated intelligence which includes perceiving, synthesizing, and inferring information. Example tasks in which AI is used include speech recognition, computer vision, translation between languages, as well as other mappings of inputs, and of course creating and producing music.
And as it goes to music, it is not necessarily a disadvantage for musicians and other workers of the music industry for the IA to be a “job stealer”. Often AI is seen as an opportunity giver and a great help to improve and make the process of creating a bit faster and easier in in terms of making music and producing it. Quite a few artists have moved away from manual production are now using AI in the production process. Even such stars as David Guetta, who is known to be one of the most famous DJ’s in the world admitted to use AI for their work. David Guetta believes that “AI is the future of music”! One of the most important things he said at one of the Brit Awards Gala is: "Nothing is going to replace taste. What defines an artist is, you have a certain taste, you have a certain type of emotion you want to express, and you're going to use all the modern instruments to do that.”- that is, I think the essential of understanding AI as an opportunity and not as an obstacle.
Every artist is creating music for different reasons. Some, may do it only for the money, but the majority wants to transfer their emotions into something free to interpretation. Music, although with specific lyrics, can be a universal language for variety of emotions, stories, adventures, experiences and so, so many feelings. Everyone can find their place in the world of music, and If there happen to be a tool which may help with getting into this industry or to diversify one’s journey with it, then why label it as something “bad”? Composition apps, mastering platforms, song identification tools and even highly personalized playlists- AI is changing the way music is created and listened to. It opens up new horizons and broadens the perspective. It is only your choice what kind of use you will make from AI tools.
