Over the summer you might have heard some devastating news about the state of our planet. Some of them might be true, but it’s important to remember that the catchiest of headlines aren’t necessarily meant to be accurate. In this article I will try to show you that not all hope for the future of the environment has been lost and debunk one of the most common misconceptions about climate change and related matters.

What is being done to stop climate change?

To me as it sure is to everyone else it can be quite discouraging to be overloaded with calls to action and constant urging to do something about climate change while the people in positions of authority who actually have the power and ability to make things better seem to be doing nothing. I find that what raises my spirits about the future of the world is reading and learning about active non-profits whose efforts have real and tangible results. One of the most renowned environmental groups is The Nature Conservancy. It is one of the oldest groups of its kind. They mainly support environmental protection programmes and focus on the conservation of land and water.

Following such organizations may be helpful in staying up to date on matters such as climate change because it’s their mission to mitigate climate change as much as possible and the first step to doing that is making information about it more accessible.

What’s the best way to know what is going on?

We live in a time of rapid changes and near endless access to knowledge and the internet which in practice means that on average a person is more likely to encounter disinformation than fully truthful information. How can we keep up with all the important things happening in the world?

It’s important to check your data on actual credible sites like NASA or the UNEP and not just rely on social media sites that thrive on sensationalism and fear mongering. It’s important to remember that the world isn’t all bad and for most negative things happening you will find a positive counterpart if you just care to look.
