Well, welcome to the sports part of The IB Times! A lot of things happened so it is impossible to squeeze all of them here. However, here it is, my choice of probably the most interesting ones. Ready? Set... GO!
VICE WORLD CHAMPIONS! AND ONE OF THE EIGHT BEST TEAMS IN THE WORLD!
If you thought about football - shame on you. The world cup doesn't start until November. And come on - the chances are small they will get a good result. BUT WHO GOT A GREAT RESULT? YES, THE VOLLEYBALL TEAMS!
Writing about the whole season would be too long, so let's just focus on the championships part. Ladies shall excuse me, but I will start with men.
What can I say? Beautiful, wonderful, great team. Watching their matches was a pleasure. What added to this pleasure was (no, not looking at Tomek Fornal) seeing a whole crowd of white and red. And hearing the anthem being sung acapella - great feeling, even if just watched on the tv. And now try and imagine how wonderful it must have been live!
About the results - yes, I cried after they lost this one last match. But what I finally realised after few days? Polish volleyball team is the second best team in the world.

It is wonderful!
And including the results - Italy is the world champion, Poland is vice-champion, Brazil won the third place and Slovenia fourth.

Now for the ladies - they might have not won a medal, but they definiately won our hearts. Playing in the quaterfinals was a HUGE SUCCESS. That's a team that will get great results soon, I believe so.

Not to mention, that in this quaterfinal, they lost to Serbia, the world champion, after a long fight. Let's celebrate, the girls are in the top 8 teams in the world! And again, including the results - Serbia is the world champion, Brazil vice-champion, Italy won the third place and USA fourth.

"Trying to put this yellow fluffy thing between the lines."
1GA!!!
The racket. Girl racket. Number 1. How else can we even name this girl? SHE IS UNSTOPPABLE! 8 champion titles in this year (and 11 in total!), including 2 grand slam! 64 winnings this year in total and the 37 winnings strike, the best one in 21st century! She has over 10 000 points in WTA ranking, the point difference between me and Ons Jabeur (who is second in the ranking) is smaller, than the point difference between Iga and Ons. It is crazy. What else can we call her if not a champion?
What are her latest winnings? Well, the most recent one (like really, she won it on 17th October! in european time zone at least) is the triumph in San Diego Open. The last set was spectacular! She won it 6:0! WOW!

Okay, yeah, San Diego Open was great, but what's even greater is Iga's success in the US Open. One of the most prestigous tournaments. And she won it! She won it as the first Pole ever! But the biggest reward was probably the piece of tiramisu hidden in her cup, it is her favourite cake.
Goodbyes
It is the circle of life in sport. One big career is just starting, the other is ending. Two absolutely legendary tennis players decided to end their careers. Serena Williams and Roger Federer. These two won basically everything that can be won in tennis - all four grand slam tournaments, olympic medals, a lot of other tournaments winnings. What can I write more than that they will be missed? Tennis will not be the same without them, it will have to move on. Great people with great careers.

F- fourth... or maybe not?
It is often said that the fourth place is the worst place. You tried so hard, but weren't good enough to get to the medal position. Do male polish basketball team think so? They may not! They got the fourth place in eurobasket, the European Championship! The best result for Poland since... 20 years or so.

Of course, there is a bit of disappointment, because medal was really really close, but they fought till the very end and it is still a great result. And what adds to this greatness is beating Slovenia - previous European champion. Team put all heart in playing and showed that they are a good team. Who knows, maybe the next championships will be theirs?
And the results of course - European champion is Spain, vice-champion is France, third place was won by Germany.
Winter sport in summer? Why not!
The topic which is closest to my heart - ski jumping. Yes, there is ski jumping in the summer. It is called - Summer Grand Prix. This season's one started on 22nd July in Wisla, Poland and ended on 2nd October in Klinghental, Germany. Funny thing to notice - both overall winners of SGP were people, who won the first competitions. What's even funnier - they also won last competitions. So who are they?
Ladies first of course - Josephine Pagnier from France was third, Nika Kriznar from Slovenia was second and first?

Ursa Bogataj from Slovenia! This years olympic champion proves that she is great. There is a common knowledge in ski jumping fandom that "we shouldn't expect great results in winter, just judging from the summer ones" but I think that I won't be wrong if I write that Ursa is going for the Crystal Globe for the season 2022/2023.
Okay and what about the man? Third was Kamil Stoch (funny thing is that he started in only three competitions, in two he was on podium and in the third he got disqualified) and second was Manuel Fettner from Austria. But who could have won SGP overall if not summer king himself?

Dawid Kubacki! Not only that he won. Now, he has the most competitions in SPG won (14) and the most overall winnings in SPG (4). But of course it is not summer that matters the most - it is winter. Fingers crossed that he will get as good results in the World Cup. Mark your calendars - season starts really early this year! When you may ask? I will answer - 4th November, the first qualifications for Large Hill women and men competitions in Wisla.
Championships in everything that can be
It was the European Championships in everything that can be, do not tell me otherwise. This was a massive, multi-sport event. Athletics, cycling, triathlon, sports climbing and more - a lot of different disciplines. How Polish athlets did? Amazing. Let the statistics speak for themelves. 39 medals in total, 8 gold, 16 silver, 15 bronze. 8th place in general medal table. Wow.
And now, for the subjective choice of five most interesting medals for Poland.
Hammer throw

Come on. Who else could win if not Wojciech Nowicki? He won after throwing the hammer on 82 meters! It was the world leading performance! Sadly, Paweł Fajdek didn't make it to podium, he was fourth. But the joke that it is one of them, who may win the gold is still on. And to think that he wasn't even supposed to go there.
Hepthathlon

Adrianna Sułek and her silver medal. What. A. GIRL! She won it with a injury of biceps muscle!
Come on, who would do that? And wait, there is more. She was the second best in high and long jump, established her personal bests in shot put, long jump and javelin throw and was the best in 800 meters run! Unbelieveble.
Sport climbing - Women's speed

It is honestly hard to believe, but... the fourth Polish athlete is also the fourth European athlete. Girls dominated it. Aleksandra Mirosław won gold, Aleksandra Kałudzka silver, Natalia Kałudzka bronze and Patrycja Chudziak was fourth. Something like this doesn't happen at usual.
Canoe sprint

So in total Poland got 15 medals in canoe sprint. But what is special? Or maybe, who is special? The answer is - Anna Puławska. She got not one, not two, but three gold medals! One in K-1 500 m, one in K-2 500 m and one in K-4 500 m. Impressive. Most impressive.
4 x 100 metres relay

The weirdest team possible - Pia Skrzyszowska, Ewa Swoboda, Anna Kiełbasińska and Marika Popowicz-Drapała. Pia and Anna joined the squad not so long before the final. For Pia it was second chance for medal - several dozen minutes earlier she won gold in 100 meters hurdles. Later in the interview, all girls said that it was crazy and make or break move by the coach. But all the craziness was worth it - not only they won silver medal, but also established national record.
Imagine that this is a creative headline about football
I'm not going to lie - I am not a big fan of football. And you should be aware of that, especially when world cup starts, because I will surely be complaining. And as you may saw a few paragraphs above - I strongly believe in girl with racket supremancy, so she wins in this battle for me.
Polish national team
No comment. The comment will appear during and after world cup.
EURO 2024 elimination groups
Yeah, the groups were draw by lot. Yay! 10 groups, seven with 5 countries and three with 6. Poland is in the group E, together with Czech Republic, Albania, Faroe Islands and Moldova. Is it a good group? Appearently Poland is the favourite to win in it and qualify to championships from the first place. Will it be so? We will see in march.
World Cup Qatar 2022
Only a month and few more days before the start of world cup. First world cup in Near East and muslim country, and first time happening in autumn. If you are interested - mark your calendars if you haven't done it already, 20th November, 17:00 CET, the inauguration match starts. Poland plays its first match (with Mexico) two days later, on 22nd November, 17:00 CET. We will see, whether they can repeat the success of vollayball team - quick 3:0 and go under the shower.
